He did his Junior House Officer training at University Teaching Hospital, Lusaka, Zambia (1986-1989). He also worked in Anesthesia and Intensive Care at Windhoek state Hospital, Namibia for a year and completed Diploma in Anesthesia (DA) from The college of Medicine of South Africa. He then started training in General Surgery at King Edward Hospital in Durban, South Africa.Dr. Huq started his career in Cardiac Surgery by joining the Residency Program at Groote Schuur Hospital, University of Cape Town, South Africa in January,1993. He completed FCS in Cardiac Surgery from The College of Medicine of South Africa in 1997.
He then moved to Melbourne, Australia in 1988 and did Fellowship training both in Pediatric and Adult Cardiac Surgery at Royal Children Hospital and Monash Medical Centre. His Fellowship training were conducted by the Royal Australasian college of Physicians & Surgeons.
In 2001 Dr. Huq moved to Canada and worked as a Fellow, Associate Consultant and Consultant in Cardiac Surgery at Toronto General Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Science Centre in Toronto and St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver for long twelve years.
Dr. Huq was one of the opening Cardiac Surgeons of Ibrahim Cardiac Center in Dhaka in 2004 and continued doing surgery in that center intermittently till 2017 on pro-bono basis. In July 2012, Dr. Huq joined as a Senior Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at king Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Continued working there until he joined the Apollo Hospitals Dhaka in November 2017.
