He has achieved his MD from well-known IPGMR currently Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) under University of Dhaka. Besides his training and experience of working in Bangladesh, he has worked with some of the premium medical facilities in India, Japan as a Pain Specialist.
He is a Fellow in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine, Japan. He is the Founder Secretary General and presently President of South Asian Regional Pain Society (SARPS) and currently being the Secretary General of Bangladesh Society of Study of Pain (BSSP).
Prof AKM Akhtaruzzaman is the Co-ordinator of Essential Pain management (EPM) Course, jointly organized by Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) and Bangladesh Society for Study of Pain (BSSP) and also LearnPain, a two weeks long Certificate Course on Pain Medicine (CCPM).
He has extensive experience with all Interventional Pain Management techniques and is well-trained in diagnostic and therapeutic selective nerve root and facet joints injections, Epidural injections, intradiscal procedures- Ozone therapy, Intra articular injections- PRP therapy.
He is the one of the founder of Dhaka Pain Management Centre. Dhaka Pain Management Centre is the first integrated, multidisciplinary, well equipped advanced Pain Clinic in Bangladesh. He is enriched with many research publications in the field of pain Medicine and Anaesthesiology. He attended many international conferences on pain management globally.
He has worked for World Health Organization (WHO) to formulate guideline in management of Nipah Virus, SARS and EBOLA virus. He is an Independent Consultant for formulation of clinical guideline for determination of death. He is an active participation as an International Scholar of 67th Postgraduate Assembly of New York State Society of Anaesthesiologists (NYSSA) in 2013 reflects his reputation internationally.
